Pyramids of Giza Travel Guide

 

INTRODUCTION:

Giza houses three Pyramids that are the most famous tourists’ attraction of Egypt. These Pyramids are also known as Pyramid of Cheops and Pyramid of Khufu. These Pyramids are the only survivors of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. The history indicates that these pyramids were built in over the course of 20 years finishes off in 2560BC. The Pyramids in Giza is one of the most visited tourist destination in the world. People around the world take flights to Cairo and visit the historical wonder of the world. The Great Pyramid is the biggest pyramid in all three of them. There are three chambers in the Great Pyramid. It also has two temples in the honor of the Khufu. The material used in the Great Pyramid is about 2.3 limestone blocks. In Kings chamber (Highest Chamber) the largest granite stone is found which weigh around 30 to 80 tones and it is been considered that it was transported from 500 miles away from Aswan.

Flying: 

Best way to visit the Pyramids of Giza is through air. There are plenty of airlines take cheap flights to Cairo on daily basis around the world. The airlines which are providing the services to Cairo are Emirates, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Gulf Air, Swiss, Korean Air, Royal Air Maroc, Libyaan, Air China and Air France etc.  It takes approximately 30 minutes to travel from Cairo International Airport to Giza through taxi.

By Metro: 

Once you reach Cairo, you can take the Metro Line 2 which goes from Cairo to Giza. However it does not take you to all the way to the Pyramids. If you get of the Giza station and get on the minibuses which will take you to the Pyramids in around 10-20 minutes.

By Taxi: 

From central Cairo the tourist can get the cab service to go the Pyramids of Egypt. The pyramids are around 28km away from Cairo and 8km outside of the Giza. The charges of the white or yellow cabs are the same. 

By Bus: 

It is also possible for the tourists to get on the minibuses from Cairo to Giza. Both the entrances to Pyramids are complex and only buss of number.357 and 355 goes to the pyramids of Giza. The buses are in white color and they have stops in Cairo city Heliopolis, airports and Abdel Menem Riyad station which is very close to the Egyptian Museum.

TOURISTS SITES:

Great Pyramid of Khufu: 

The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest Pyramid in Egypt. Two million blocks have been used in the making of this Pyramid. Visitors enter the Pyramids through the Robber’s Tunnel.  Tourists are not allowed to take pictures inside the pyramids, it’s strictly forbidden.

Pyramid of Snefuru:  

The Snefuru Pyramid is considered unique in its own way. It used to be seven stepped pyramids but then with passage of time the Pyramids started falling and now the pyramid is surrounding by the wreckage from the casing that distorted. This gives the pyramid an unusual and strange look. Best way to go inside the pyramid is through its 30m stairway. 

Pyramid of Menkaure: 

The Menkaure pyramid is the smallest pyramid among all three pyramids. This pyramid was completed in 26th century. 

The Great Sphinx:

 The Great Sphinx is an outstanding piece of art. The Great Sphinx is comprises of body of a lion and head of a human. Its unique shape is the main attraction among the tourists around the world.

Queens’ Pyramids and Nobles’ Tomb: 

It’s spread around the larger pyramid and presents a delicate shape. The timing sight timing of the pyramids in April – September is 07:00am to 07:00pm and from October to March it is 07:00am till 05:00pm. Another thing always bear in mind that the climbing over the pyramids is totally illegal and lots of tourist have gotten injured or die while attempting to reach on the top. 

CLIMATE

1st Quarter:

The climate of Giza is quite similar to Cairo’s climate as its located just 15 t0 20 minutes drive from Cairo. In 1st quarter January, February and March the highest record temperature is 65°F, 68°F and 73°F and the average lowest temperature is 49°F, 50°F and 54°F respectively. January is the coolest month of the year in Giza. In Giza the highest rainfall is seen in the months of January which is approximately 27 mm. Mostly tourist can not tolerate the heat of Giza specially when travelling with family they take Cairo flights in January to visit the historical pyramids. So, that’s how they can enjoy the beautiful rainy weather along with the sighting of pyramids. 

2nd Quarter:

The 2nd quarter starts very dry and the average maximum temperature in April, May and June reaches up to 82°F, 89°F and 93°F respectively. In April, May and June the minimum temperature drops up to 59°F, 64°F and 70°F respectively. The hot season continues in 2nd quarter as well. The average record percentage of humidity in 2nd quarter is up to 50%. May is driest month of the year in Giza.

3rd Quarter:

June, August and September the hot weather continues in the land of Egypt. The maximum average temperature in June, August and September is 93°F, 93 and 92 respectively and the minimum record temperature last year remained constant up to 72°F. 

4th Quarter:

In 4th quarter of the year the weather gets better and little cooler. In months of October, November and December’s maximum temperature reaches up to 85°F, 75°F and 67°F respectively. The minimum temperatures in these months are October (65°F), November (58°F) and December (51°F). The average percentage of humidity reaches to 60%.
