Bongor Travel Guide

INTRODUCTION:

Bongor is amongst the important cities in Chad. The city of Bongor is also the capital of Mayo-Kebbi Est, the province of the country. The city comprises an extensive flora as it is located right next to the Logone River. It also has an airport known as Bongor airport which serves all flights to Bongor frequently. The population of the city is over 29,000. Bongor has a strong historical background. It was once a part of German Cameroon and in the year 1904, it received a military station by a German colonial officer known as Herbert Kund. Since then, the city has been seeing changes and several developments.

GETTING AROUND:

Just like any other city, Bongor also holds offices, markets and industries. The city’s central market square is amongst the happening venues. Over here, both tourists and visitors get to buy the best traditional items. The city also has a hospital and several administrative offices. The road system of Chad is not well maintained however; the main road, which connects Bongor with other cities such as Kelo, Moundou, N’Djamena and Guelendeng, is the best in the country and it runs from Massakory in the north. The chief cash crops of the area include rice and cotton. Tourists are advised to check into a hotel which is located on the bank of the river Logone. The hotel is situated on a very attractive terrain offering tourists with a serene atmosphere. Apart from this, Monday is the perfect day to hang around in this small city as the market of the region sees new arrivals. 

WEATHER:

1st Quarter:

During the month of January, the weather in Bongor has an average maximum temperature at around 34 degrees Celsius during the day. During the nights, the temperature can be as low as 14 degrees Celsius. In February, the temperature can be as high as 37 degrees Celsius during the day and can be as low as 16 degrees Celsius during the night. In the month of March, the temperatures are at their highest at around 40 degrees Celsius and can be at their lowest at 21 degrees Celsius.

2nd Quarter:

The temperature during April is as high as 42 degrees Celsius during the day and can be as low as 23 degrees Celsius during the night. In the month of May, the temperatures are at their highest at around 40 degrees Celsius during the day and the temperatures during the night can be as low as 25 degrees Celsius. In June, the temperature can be as high as 38 degrees Celsius during the daytime and can be at 24 degrees Celsius during the night. During this quarter, the city receives about 100mm of rainfall.

3rd Quarter:

In the month of July, August and September, the city sees almost an equal temperature during the night that is 22 degrees Celsius. However, the temperature during the day can be as high as 33 degrees Celsius in July in Bongor. In the month of August, the temperatures are at their highest at around 31 degrees Celsius and in September, the temperatures are as high as 33 degrees Celsius. The average precipitation that the city receives during this quarter is around 609mm. 

4th Quarter:

In October, the highest temperature that the city of Bongor sees during the day is around 36 degrees Celsius and during the night, it can be as low as 21 degrees Celsius. November is the suitable month for the tourists to book their Bongor flights as the humidity rates are medium. The temperature can be as high as 36 degrees Celsius and can be as low as 17 degrees Celsius. During the month of December, the temperatures are around the highs of 33 degrees Celsius.
